Better "customer contract change" notfiications
10 Nov 2009

I offer my customers subscription type contracts, and when they want to change from one subscription plan to another, here's the message I get:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
This message is to notify you that your customer:

William Smith

Has switched contracts for product HOASpace

From: Extended Plan - Monthly Credit/Debit Card Payment

To: Economy Plan - Monthly Credit/Debit Card Payment

Regards,
Plimus Sales
(Trans. Id # 12345678)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

There are two big problems with this notifications:

1) If I have two customers named "William Smith", I have no clue which one changed their plan.

2) If William Smith has more than one subscription with us (many of our customers do), I have no clue which contract has been changed.

PS: The "Trans ID" at the bottom has no use to the vendor in the order locator.

All we need is an original order reference # to allow us to look up the exact order that was changed and our lives would be much easier. As it is now, we have to contact the customer(s) to confirm if they are the one requesting the change and if so, which web site they want changed. Needless to say, this makes us look as though we are unorganized.

Please, please add an original order reference # to these account change notifications, and even better, the custom fields for this order, as those are the are also identifying fields for us. This information is already added to the subscription cancellation and failed-charge notifications, so it shouldn't be too difficult to add here as well.

Thanks!

Oops - my bad!

Just noticed the account number in the subject line...

Although, some of our customers do have multiple web site subscriptions under one account, so we still won't know which subscription has changed...

Thanks for the Input

Hi,

Thanks for this. I am passing on to engineering to get their take.

Thanks...

Thanks Derek,

This can also go in the same bucket as giving add'l info on customer recurring charge receipts, as many of our customers have one account and several web site hosting subscriptions with us. So when they get a successful charge notice, they don't know which web site it's for. Since most of our customers are businesses, they do need to track these charges in detail. Adding the custom fields would help.

I know I've brought this up before, but I'm just being a squeaky wheel as this one's also important to us. ;-)
