Payment Methods: Real Time Bank Transfers

Real Time Online Bank Transfers are now available as a payment method for customers in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Japan, Netherlands and Singapore. They are extremely popular in these countries and allow instant payment verification. Only validated companies can offer such services, which are strictly controlled by financial authorities. The services enable users to login to a secure account page, enter a secure PIN number, then digitally authorize payment with an electronic signature.

One limitation with Online Bank Transfers is that they are only relevant for one-time payments and cannot be used for ongoing subscriptions and recurring charges. Accordingly, Online Bank Transfers will not be shown as a payment method for subsriptions and recurring contracts.  The following services are supported by Plimus:

Germany:

Giropay is a popular form of payment offered by online banking services in Germany, where users traditionally are reluctant to pay by credit card. Giropay is available to over 17 million German account holders.

One of the attractive benefits for Vendors is that payments are guaranteed up to E 5,000 per transaction and normally payments cannot be reversed once executed by the bank, which effectively reduces the incidence of chargebanks.

Sofortueberweisung is a form on online payment that is gaining favor in Germany. It activates an automatic payment in real time from a customer's bank account, after the customer has entered in personal banking details, such as account name, account number, bank code, login and PIN. To confirm the transaction a valid TAN needs to be entered as well. Over 24 million users have access to online-enabled bank accounts in Germany where there are only 16 million credit card holders.

Austria:

Austria's largest banks got together to develop a common standard for the country's online banking – the EPS system. EPS Online is now available to several million Austrian users, and provides a fast secure form of payment. EPS is launched directly from Plimus payment pages and enables the customer to start entering their relevant details and complete their purchase transaction.

Belgium:

ING Home'Pay is available for free to Belgian ING customers who have a Home'Bank account. A special module allows an account holder to type in their particulars and key in a password. The transaction is finally approved by an electronic signature key, and then the payment is made. The complete operation is fast and secure.

Netherlands:

iDeal was developed by the main banks in the Netherlands as a standard method for online payments and is now accounts for some 60% of online payments generated by Dutch consumers. The system demonstrated an impressive growth rate of 87% in 2008.

Singapore:

eNets provides virtual bank account services that offer a secure online purchasing solution for users in Singapore. Online payments are made to Vendors directly from a user's bank account and therefore there is a low repudiation rate. The service claims to provide cover for 90% of all Internet banking users in the country.
