Using Custom Fields
Custom Fields let Vendors set up additional sales form fields and receive information about the customer and transaction.
The Fields can be set to be visible or hidden on the BuyNow page, and may be made mandatory if required.
A typical example of a field that is visible and requires mandatory completion would be "How did you hear about us?"
Step-By-Step Tutorial
Set Up at Contract Level
After setting up the basic Contract information, click on 'Custom Fields' navigation link to enter the Custom Fields set up screen.
Custom Fields Screen
The Custom Fields interface is straight forward.
(1) At the top of the screen you can add any general information to appear on your BuyNow page just above your custom fields.
(2) You can use the standard translation settings for the general information and each custom field.
Custom Field Examples
Let's now add four typical examples of custom field usage:
(1) Firstly let's ask a simple question, 'How did you hear about us?' This does not need to be mandatory, and we shall select an Input field for the customer to fill in. Left alignment should suit most requirements.
(2) Next, let's set up a confirmation field: 'Yes I agree to the terms of use? View here.' You can add HTML code in the box to link to your conditions. Next select Checkbox.
(3) Here's a mandatory question for the third custom field: 'Do you intend to purchase from us in the future?' Select Dropdown then add dropdown answers Yes, No, Maybe.
(4) The fourth and last custom field will be a hidden one allowing us to pass a value in the BuyNow URL for tracking purposes. We will set up the tracking for "Newsletter_Campaign_Spring", and set a minimum and maximum number of characters. Hidden fields cannot be mandatory.
Save your settings by activating each field and pressing Submit.
Note: The aim of the hidden field is to pass a tracking value back to the Plimus system. So in order do this the custom field needs to be added to the BuyNow URL. Accordingly the URL below cites the parameter for Custom Field 4, namely: &custom4=Tracking
By adding this parameter to the BuyNow URL the tracking value will appear in Instant Notifications, sales confirmation emails, and Sales reports.
The Resulting BuyNow Page
As you can see the Additional Info section on the page includes the Custom Fields we added.
The addition of the tracking parameter to the URL does not affect the viewing of the page, but acts to send the hidden information to Plimus for inclusion in Instant Notifications, sales confirmation Emails and Sales reports.
This allows you to compare and track the performance of your various sales channels.
