Understanding softANCHOR

Uniloc softANCHOR is an advanced software protection and activation SDK that allows you to build device locked copy protection into your software publications. Device locking allows you to tie your software down to a specific set of hardware devices, limiting the number of times one of your serial numbers or customer product ids can be used, thus protecting you from unauthorized copying while ensuring normal user activities do not trigger a demand for reactivation.

How Does softANCHOR Work?

The softANCHOR SDK is comprised of two logical portions: a client side SDK which is embedded in the application running on your customer's computer, and a server side SDK which allows you to manage your online and offline activations. These SDKs, when used in conjunction, allow you to support a multitude of activation scenarios including single- or multi-device direct online activation, offline phone or email activation, time bombs, auditing and more.

The following figure provides a simple example of how the Client and Server Side SDKs could be implemented in a basic activation scenario:

The foundation of softANCHOR's ability to simplify and enforce "fair use" policies lies with Uniloc's patented Device Recognition technology. Device Recognition creates a unique Device Fingerprint for each digital device. Device Fingerprints are then used this to track the number of activations that have been executed for given product serial number. In addition, Uniloc's device recognition technology has a configurable tolerance level, which allows normal user hardware changes to occur without unnecessarily re-triggering activation.
